Community Art Talks: Bridging the Gap Between Art & YOU!

The Room Upstairs @ The RiffRaff , 865 Mercer Street

This is the fifth in a series of artist talks bridging the gap between art and the every day human. Every month will feature an open conversation with an artist.

The featured artist for February is Moren. She is a self taught artist that has worked with both traditional and digital media for the majority of her life. For the past five years, she's been designing characters and worlds and stories, focusing mostly on fantasy and sci-fi based themes. She fondly enjoys making both her characters and their environments lush and as tangible as possible. It wasn’t until after high school that she started wanting to work towards a more solid project regarding all the material she's created over the years. Starting in 2015, she has been working towards turning several long term projects into comics/graphic novels and possibly art books.

She also frequently take commissions online, mostly consisting of illustrating characters or things from other people’s stories and projects they’ve created.

Community Art Talks: Bridging the Gap Between Art and YOU!

The Room Upstairs @ The RiffRaff, 869 Mercer Street, Princeton, WV

This is the first in a series of artist talks bridging the gap between art and the every day human. Every month will feature an open conversation with an artist.

The first featured artist is Chase Bowman, a talented illustrator who uses the Appalachian tradition of storytelling to create strange and elaborate narrative works on paper. Chase did his undergradutae work at the Cleveland Institute of Art, the San Francisco Art Institute and Marshall University. In 2014, Chase recevived his MFA from the Columbus College of Art & Design. In addition, Chase has been awarded a residency at Oxford University's Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art in the United Kingdom and a fellowship with the Shafik Gabr Foundation in Cairo, Egypt. Find out more about Chase and his art at chase-bowman.com.

Chase is driven to communicate the fact that art is accessible to everyone, and it does not have to be a mysterious world layered with critique and intellectual hierarchy. Art is whatever excites you, whatever you like and are passionate about, and it is for the every day human, not just the elite. This talk, the first in a monthly series, is called "Art is What Moves You."

4th Annual Cruiser's Reunion

downtown Princeton , Mercer Street, Princeton, WV

This is the fourth annual Cruiser's Reunion organized by Teresa Catron and other cruising enthusiasts. From their web page:

"For anyone who has driven or ridden the strip from the Bridge to the Bank. If you've cruised Mercer Street, you know exactly where that is.

Cruising kept all the kids in one centralized location and parents knew where they were! What did cruising bring to our community? Kids who washed cars and worked for gas money. This is for everyone who waxes nostalgic and remembers fondly the souped up cars and cassette decks blaring music from Cheap Trick & REO Speedwagon, Bon Jovi & Def Leppard.

Cruise On!"
